PE and Sport Premium
At Woodthorpe, we fully recognise the vital role that PE plays in promoting the health and well-being of our students. We believe that a diverse and innovative PE curriculum, alongside a range of extra-curricular activities, positively impacts our children’s concentration, attitude, and overall academic achievement.
Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will allow us to expand our provision further. This funding will enable us to employ additional sports professionals who are dedicated to inspiring and motivating our pupils. We are also keen to enter competitive sports competitions, which will not only enhance their skills but also foster a spirit of teamwork and resilience.
In addition to this, the funding will be used to train our staff and provide appropriate equipment to ensure they deliver high-quality PE sessions in-house. This means that our children will benefit from tailored programmes designed to meet their individual needs and interests, contributing to a more engaging and enjoyable PE experience.
What is the Sport Premium?
The government is providing extra funding to schools and academies. The aim of this funding is to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programs offered by primary schools and is provided jointly by various governmental departments including Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. Funding for schools is calculated by the number of primary-aged pupils between the ages of 5 and 11.
All schools and/or academies with seventeen or more primary-aged pupils receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil. Schools are free to pool resources to ensure the greatest impact. The Sports Premium is ‘ring fenced’ which means it can only be spent specifically on PE and sport within the school and must be used to increase the breadth of PE and sport provision and increase participation in PE and sport.
Purpose of the funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have certain freedoms to choose how they do this.
