Physical Education

At Woodthorpe C of E (VC) Primary School we place great importance on Physical Education and school sport. We aim to provide a high-quality Physical Education curriculum which inspires all pupils. At school we want all pupils to excel in both competitive and non-competitive sporting activities. We provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and well-being. The children at Woodthorpe C of E ((VC) Primary School have the opportunity to participate in sports they wouldn’t usually do outside of school such as ice-skating.


The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives
