Throughout the Foundation Stage, music lessons focus on singing, using actions, using simple rhythms and movement. Throughout the school, music and singing are an important part of our curriculum. The school has a choir which performs regularly at the Bolsover Choir Festival and at the highly acclaimed Young Voices concert at the Sheffield Arena. These events are amazing experiences for our choir members, staff, parents and family members alike. The choir has also performed to much appreciation for the elderly residents at the Willows Nursing Home in Woodthorpe.
Throughout key stage two, the children are given the opportunity to learn how to read music as part of the curriculum. They can then apply their knowledge by playing the hand-bells and recorders.
Singing takes place during whole school assemblies and there are opportunities throughout the year for all children to perform for their parents and families at class assemblies and special services both in school and at St John the Baptist Church in Staveley.
